Emanuel Hoss-Desmarais
Director
Director Emanuel Hoss-Desmarais’ Whitewash won Best Direction of a First Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival and Best First Film at the Canadian Screen Awards. In 2018, his second feature film, Birthmarked, starring Toni Colette and Matthew Goode, was released in U.S. theaters and subsequently sold to Netflix International.
Since 2001, Emanuel Hoss-Desmarais has directed hundreds of advertising campaigns, many of which have won awards at the Cannes, New York, London and Toronto festivals. Emanuel was honored with the Best Direction award at the PRIX CRÉA in 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2021, and nominated for the same award in 2005. He also won Best Direction at the Canadian Marketing Awards in 2011.
The most recent of his three short films, Marius Borodine, won several international festival awards, received a nomination at the 2011 Genie Awards and was selected as one of Canada’s Top Ten at TIFF 2011.
Before becoming a director, he worked as an editor and actor.
